I first met Alex in 1995 when we were placed in the same University flat in Simon Senlis Halls. I remember knocking on the other 5 rooms and the first conversation, which started "Hi. I'm Rob. Do you want to play pool and drink some beers?" You and 2 others then ventured out with me to a nearly pub, The Sunnyside, where we achieved out goal. We were friends from that moment on.

That night you also branded with me with a name that a few still use to this day, Pants. Watching pool being played and a poor missed shot, I declared that's pants. A phrase you hadn't heard before and that was that. Pants ot Pantsman was born. However, as you became known as Twiggy or The Twigster I think it balanced out. Les gave you that I think.

So many memories of our time at Uni together as we shared the flat and the next house for part of year 2. Partying, exam stresses, quoting Withnail and I, looking out for each other, playing in our band Broken Smile. My favourite track you wrote, Daughter Number Seven, will now remain in just the minds of a few of us from that time.

You really were a poet and a gentle and kind sensitive soul.

I'm glad we stayed in touch and met occasionally many years later.
